Until 1992 foreign students had been trained in accordance with international agreements of the former Soviet Union. Nowadays foreign students are trained on the basis of contracts with individuals and firms.

Foreigners applying to study at the State University "Lviv Polytechnic" are to submit the following documents:

1. Education record certified by notar with enumeration of subjects studied and examination marks (points);

2. Medical certificate confirming absence of HIV - infection sickness stipulated in corresponding agreements between Ukraine and other countries, or certificate of medical prophylactic institution on medical inspection of HIV infection;

3. Medical health certificate confirming the possibility of studying under conditions of Ukraine's climate, certified by health officials of the country directing a candidate for studies;

4. Questionnaire (to be filled in at the University);

5. Certified copy of birth certificate;

6. 6 photographs of 6x4 cm size;

7. 4 photographs of 3x4 cm size ;

8. Passport;

9. Entrance visa.

Persons arriving to study present their documents personally.

1. On admission foreigners not speaking Ukrainian or Russian are enrolled in "COMPIS" preparatory department at the State University "Lviv Polytechnic" for foreigners for a year , where they study the Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Drawing, History of Ukraine and other subjects, depending on the speciality.

2. Final examination are taken at the end of an academic year. Those who pass them successfully get certificates of a certain form giving them the right to study at State University "Lviv Polytechnic" or other educational establishments depending on the speciality they want to get.

3. The "COMPIS" Preparatory department for foreigners is licenced by Ukrainian Ministry of Education and gives training by the following specializations:

• engineering;
• architecture;
• medicine and biology;

4. Foreigners unable to pass the examinations as well as those who don't show sufficient knowledge return to their native countries on their own.

5. Beginning of study October, 1.

Foreign students are offered the following degrees (diplomas) depending on the period of studies and the academic background.

Bachelor of Engineering (Science, Arts) - 4 years

Master of Engineering ( Science, Arts) - 5-6 years

Foreign citizens having got a Bachelor Degree from a University in their country can be enrolled for the studies at the State University "Lviv Polytechnic" to study for their Master and Ph.D. Degrees. The term of Masters studies is 2-3 years depending on the level of professional training of a foreign citizen preceding the studies.

Having gained the Master degree and displayed abilities for scientific - research work, foreign citizens are offered the opportunities to gain Ph.D. Degree.

Starting date - December, 1

Foreign citizens having higher education can undergo internship at the State University "Lviv Polytechnic"

The internship can not exceed 2 years. A certificate is issued on the activities undertaken during internship. Starting date - on agreement with the scientific adviser.

Training foreign citizens is conducted in accordance with plans and syllabuses of instruction valid at State University "Lviv Polytechnic" or individual plans and syllabuses worked out and approved by educational establishments as stipulated in agreements/contracts. On graduating from the University foreign citizens are awarded internationally recognized diplomas certifying the level of the education undertaken and the qualification degree gained in accordance with the system of education in Ukraine.

Foreign students, post-graduates and probationers are guaranteed rights and freedoms specified in the legislation in force in Ukraine.

Foreign citizens willing to study at the State University "Lviv Polytechnic" get invitations giving them the right to apply for their visas at the Ukrainian Embassy in their country.

Having been enrolled for the studies at the University foreign citizens need a permission for temporary residence in Ukraine officially registered in accordance with the existing procedure.

Foreign students are obliged to keep to the visa - registration regulations for foreign citizens while on the territory of Ukraine.

The yearly fees for foreign students in USD are :

• preparatory department - 1000
• undergraduate – 1000-1200
• post-graduate - 2000
• internship - 1000

Foreign Students are provided with accommodation students' hostels .

This academic year three new established educational programs will start. These programs (computer engineering, electrical engineering and chemical engineering) are developed in cooperation with the best Canadian universities and are to be offered in English
